My Vacation

I was suppose to go to Eureka this week and visit my old haunts. Melissa and were planning to go to CR and visit the campus, take a hike, visit Hobbiton, USA, and be amongst the tallest living organisms in the world! That all went up in smoke about a week ago when Melissa had to cancel, which, after her explanation I totally understood, but was no less disappointed.

However, I took the time off anyway and with a little imagination I found a good time right here in my own backyard. On Wednesday I originally planned to stay home and redecorate my room, watch a movie, or write something. Vera had time off too and I had planned on going to the De Young the next day. It was getting later though and we eventually decided to go to the Oakland Zoo. It was pretty neat, but we got there too close to closing and a lot of the animals were in their night houses already. I did get some pretty good pictures though. I do love the giraffe with his neck so tall.

This is Vera and Carrie gawking at the fruit bats!

Thursday was the De Young Museum. A bit of a let down. I loved it as a child when my mother would take me. There just wasn't any great art exhibits there, I've seen better at the Oakland Art Museum and Balboa Park in San Diego. Some of their ancient art collections I liked, especially some of the African art made with human skulls, a little creepy.

Yesterday was the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was great to be there. So much had changed since I was a teenager... the last time I had been. We saw jellys, tuna, sunfish, otters, fish, fish, invertebrates, fish, kelp, and more fish. We kinda did a fast tour, and spent a total of a couple hours there. I would of liked to lingered longer, maybe close the place down. But, on the way home we had some wonderful Texas barbecue. The sauce was retaarded! I have to say my favorite thing was Sam's Sausage. You know this!

Tonight is game night and I'm sure I'll have more to report, as I will probably be the only single person in a sea of couples. And possibly the only gay. Lucky me!
