Vera and I saw Gigi Tuesday night at the Stanford in downtown Palo Alto. We dressed up in a "French style". Mona Cavrona had on her neck-erchief, a little French skirt with high-heels and ankle straps. I had on black slacks with boots and designer shirt, and a beret. Oooh la la!
Every body gave us looks like we were either sweet for dressing "all cute" or weirded out that people actually are having fun. I don't care though the guy behind the concession stand flirted with me.
It was actually a double feature, we caught the end of the other movie. It was "The Reluctant debutante". Angela Lansbury was in it and she was fabulous. "Reluctant Debutante" was about this young girl who doesn't want to marry the man her stepmother wants her to, she wants to marry this other man that the stepmother believes is a philanderer. It turns out that the philanderer is actually a duke and so the stepmother approves and everyone lives happily ever after. But not before we go through some mad-cap high-jinx. Adorable!
Gigi, however, was great. "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" Just a hootin' good time. It was about a young English girl living in Paris with her Grandmother. They are friends with a wealthy celebrity, who's kinda bored with privileged life, and women. But then while visiting Gigi he realizes that the little girl he once knew has grown up before his eyes in to a remarkable woman. The whole gist of the movies philosophy is, there are some women who are the marrying sort and those who are not. It got me thinking though, am I the marrying sort or aren't I? I'm not dating, and I haven't been on a date in months. Perhaps, it's not for me. Well... I'll definitely need to give that more thought.
All in all a great night at the picture show.
Oh yeah, they showed a Superman short at the beginning. It was so bad! The villainess was called the Spider Woman. She was so not spidery at all. She was makin' all the calls to her lackeys' car with some kinda radio. You know if she was a real spider lady, she'd have someone make that call for her. Miss Spider Lady, wouldn't be using no radio!
